Stuttgart Media University

Stuttgart Media University (Hochschule der Medien) is a state university based in Stuttgart, Germany, which educates media specialists. Hochschule der Medien covers a broad spectrum of media expertise: from printed media to electronic media, from design to business administration, from library science to advertising, from content for media to packaging technology, from computer science to information science to publishing and electronic media. At the moment, more than 5000 students are enrolled at the university.

Since September 1, 2001, Hochschule der Medien has brought together the combined know-how of the former Fachhochschule für Druck und Medien (HDM) – a traditional educational institution for printing- and media-technologies – and Hochschule für Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen (HBI).

In all courses, the students get an active transfer of knowledge through theory and projects that have a practical orientation. Team work is being trained, conceptual thinking is taught and the organisation of media projects practiced. That is why the graduates are prepared for the constant changes in the media industry.

For students that are intersted in entrepreneurship, the HdM offers a startup center to support young founders. The assistance covers consultation, workshops and, in some cases, also financial aid. International projects offer a wide range of possibilities for founders, students and employees. Every student can use the help of the so-called Generator, no matter how far they have progressed with their idea. Therefore, the HdM is perfectly prepared to host international entrepreneurs.
